Fitness Mechanics

People generally take good care of their car engines. They replace the brakes for fear of crashing; add oil and water to make the engine run smoothly; they make sure to add petrol, so it can keep running and some even fit out their cars with a turbo charger for more power and speed. They wash and polish it till it shines. It’s their pride and joy. You need your body more than your car, why not take better care of it? Got your attention now?

So back to the fitness mechanics, a car needs a good battery right? When you exercise you charge your bodies “battery”, thereby your lungs, breathing, heart, muscles and all your internal organs become more efficient and you have much more energy. If you want to keep running your engine at high speed just keep up your fitness with continuous exercise.

Very important, your body need a good warm up to move fluids and lubricate your joints, enabling you to have full range of movement and also prevent injury. Just like running your car engine first thing in the morning before you take off to work, you need to “start” your body’s muscles and get blood flow to them before you can accelerate and exercise “at high speed”.

As you progress and become fitter you turn your body into a turbo charger and all you have to do to recharge your “battery” is sleep, too easy. Providing the correct “fuel” (nutrition) for your engine will give you enough power to have sustained energy for exercise. Drinking lots of water will nourish your skin and help keep its youthful appearance and improve elasticity.

Remember to always buy good footwear for perfect knee and ankle support as you don’t want your tyres to let you down. It only takes 2 weeks to train your brain and get your engine used to high speed. The end result is a sleek, sexy, healthy car ......body and you will have become stronger, sleep better, stress less, have better posture and feel happier. When last have you checked your engine? Bone

Bone is living tissue, able to repair itself after breaks. It is supplied with blood and networked with nerves. Like muscles, bones can atrophy, so without use, they become weaker, while bones that are used grow and remain strong. The skeleton has 206 bones and these account for 20% of our total body weight.

Joint flexibility

The condition of joints is important for flexibility. If joints are underused they can stiffen, if used to full potential, the ligaments become more flexible and full range of movement can be achieved.

Muscle

The body has about 600 different muscles, accounting for around one half of our total body weight. Unused muscles also atrophy, decreasing in strength and size. And of course the only way to help your muscles develop is through regular exercise.

Breathing

The volume of our daily intake of air is five times more than our daily food and fluid intake combined. Most of us care less about the quality of the air we breath than about the quality of our food and drink. Most people only use their lungs to their maximum potential when they laugh or cry deeply. You cannot choose to hold your breath indefinitely, because ultimately you will black out, and as soon as you do, your body will begin to breath again.

Do diets work?

Diets work short term as most people are unable to sustain them and therefore put all the weight back on within 12 months. When you try to lose weight for other people (partner, doctor, family) you will lose motivation quickly as you are only doing it to make them happy. To burn of 1 scone or 1 chocolate bar or 500g potato chips or 2 cans of cola you have to walk for 60 minutes or do 35 minutes of aerobic exercise or 35 minutes of moderate cycling.

Think slim

Think slim, fit and healthy and focus on muscle gain, better flexibility, better tone, more energy, better sleep. Don’t compare yourself to others; you are on your own journey. Have high self esteem.
